about

I wrote this song in a couple of phases, initially thinking about parts of myself that I tend to keep hidden, and how this can be painful. Upon further reflection I saw how I've hurt others when I've chosen not to act fully as myself. I think we're all best when we commit fully to being ourselves, and not some other ideal.

lyrics

Could you forgive me?
I know I wasn't honest at first
or forthcoming with my worst
I needed someone and you were there
but now I can't seem to care

I can be so mean
when I try not to be me

I don't want to be ashamed
of the things I can't change

Could you believe me?
I know my promises hurt
and not knowing's the worst
I needed someone and you were there
yet now I can't seem to care

I can be so mean
when I try not to be me

I don't want to be ashamed
of the things I can't change

I don't think I'll ever fit
no matter how hard I try
I don't think I'll ever fit in
no matter how hard I lie

I don't want to be ashamed
of the things I can't change
